'Spice' up the Bedroom with This Fun DIY Spinner

After being married for almost 10 years {YIPPEE!}, it's fun to spice things up in the bedroom every once and a while.  I, however, am NOT a crafty person, so the easier the idea, the better!  LOL...This sexy spinner card is just that...easy but also super HOT!

I think part of having fun is not knowing what is coming next...an element of surprise makes something so much more fun for a hot date night.  SO, I thought that having a spinner card made up of 6 different options would not only give that element of surprise to your date night, but also would let your spouse know you are wanting some special time with him/her!

All you need to do to create a special night for your spouse is print off these amazing printables, cut them out, put them together using some brass fasteners, and voila - you will have an amazingly fun night with your spouse! The printables not only include the fantastic spinner, but also as a bonus, a fun invite to give your spouse before the night begins!  Courtney, from All Things Bright & Beautiful, designed these superb printables. She is wonderfully talented and easy to work with.  She made this post possible with her talents of hers.  Thanks SO much Courtney! ****Here are a couple of hints when putting your spinner and invite together: it helps a ton to print on card stock but using normal paper works as well (I tried both).  When making a hole for your brass fastener, cut pretty large holes to allow the spinner to move easier.  Last, when putting the brass fastener on, don't put it on too tight - give it a little 'wiggle' room.  I put it on loosely and my spinner worked really well.****

It's time you create one and use it for more than just organizing your busy life!  Use it to leave love notes and date invites for your sexy spouse!

This simple, DIY project is a fun and easy way to utilize free wall space in your home!  First, pick a centrally located area you feel comfortable using for notes, invites, greetings and more.  Then purchase chalkboard paint. I used Rust-oleum Chalkboard Paint.

Next, paint the desired area (you may need two coats).  Once completely dry, prep the wall according to the instructions given on the box (it's super easy, you basically just rub chalk dust on the painted area).  And VOILA!

You now have a chalkboard wall in your home that both you AND your kids will LOVE!

You can use the chalk space in a variety of ways, such as a family message center for appointment reminders, schedules and more!

But my FAVORITE way to utilize this space is by leaving love notes or date invites for my hubby!  It always makes his day to see a new message on the wall before leaving for work!

Yep, this gift idea is SO simple and easy to put together.  If you have a printer, scissors, glue, and pen- then you have everything you need!  We asked Courtney from All Things Bright and Beautiful to design these for us and we were seriously BLOWN AWAY with what she created.  Have you seen her work?  That girl has some serious talent.  Just wait until you see what she's hooking you up with... 

It's the perfect gift idea if you are low on money but high on love OR if you've been trying to get in the habit of having regular date night.

I came up with the idea when I was trying to think of an inexpensive, but meaningful gift for my husband.  I wished I could afford to just whisk him away for a relaxing, romantic getaway.  He loves to travel and we've often talked and dreamed about all of the places we want to go together someday.  Our bucket list of traveling destinations is definitely long.  However, with several little ones at home and student loans to pay- this is definitely not the season of our life for becoming world travelers.  So I came up with this instead.

Here's How it Works:

The basic idea is that you're going to be giving your honey a little "Passport to Love" kit.  He'll use this kit to go on a different date with you every month for the whole year.  The idea is to "travel the world" together, visiting a different destination each month.  You can choose to actually go out and visit different cities, sites, or attractions near you, OR you can do what I did and bring the different destinations to the comfort of your own home.  (No babysitter?  No problem!)  With a little creativity, you can turn your living room or bedroom into another country and pretend like you're going off on a spontaneous, whirlwind getaway.

 In this Kit You'll Include 5 Things:  

1. A Card

(So he knows what this gift is all about.)

Here's what the inside of my card looks like... 

BUT you can totally customize and decorate YOURS however you'd like!  Courtney has included a whole page of embellishments to use on your card AND to dress up your gift packaging however you'd like. 

2.  A Travel Itinerary

(So he knows which nights to reserve for you!  Just print it out and fill in your departure date & destination for each month)

3.  A Passport

France

• Make an easy Parisian picnic with french bread, gourmet cheese, fruit, and sparkling cider.
• Or how about Crepes in Paris?
• Play some French cafe accordion  music (you can play music online for free)
• Learn some French phrases, after all- it is the language of love.
• Watch a movie about France or that takes place in France.  How about Les Miserables, French Kiss, or Forget  Paris
• If you really want to go all out: speak in a French accent, wear a beret, do your hair in a French twist, or paint your nails with a French manicure- hee hee.

Spain

• Use this fun invite and learn some Spanish phrases!
• Make or go out for some spicy spanish cuisine
• Go to a salsa club and learn some dance moves- salsa, merengue, cumbia, or bachata.
• Watch Dance With Me or The Mask of Zorro.

China

• Order out Chinese food or make your own.  Leave the forks in the drawer and try chopsticks.
• Make some Chinese paper lanterns
• Try your hand at writing Chinese characters
• Play some oriental music
• Watch Mulan, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, or any Jackie Chan movie.
• Eat (or make) fortune cookies (If you put them in the microwave, they soften up and you can replace the papers with your own fortunes.  Just fold them back up and hold until set again.)

India

• Forget chairs.  Just throw some bright colored pillows on the floor.
• Turn out the lights, add candles, and Indian music for ambiance.
• Make Indian food or order out from a local Indian restaurant.  Forget the utensils, eat with your hands.
• Bejewel each other with self-adhesive jewels, or get brave and apply Henna tattoos
• Watch a Bollywood movie or learn some Bollywood dance moves from YouTube.
• How about a magic carpet ride while you watch Aladdin?  (hee hee)  Or you can be his Genie and grant him 3 wishes.

Italy

• Make homemade pasta or pizza for your Italian Stallion.
• Play some Italian music to set the mood (Andre Bocelli?) and speak in an Italian accent for fun.
• Get out some art supplies and channel your inner Michelangelo.
• For you "foreign film" how about: The Italian Job, Life is Beautiful, Under the Tuscan Sun, Roman Holiday, or Much       Ado About Nothing.
• Enjoy some gelato.
• If you really want to go all out- go for a gondola ride. (I'm thinking blow-up raft in the swimming pool -lol)

Caribbean

• Go on a Caribbean cruise! To make your room like a cruise ship, fold a towel on the bed to make a swan. (They totally have tutorials online)
• Check your local dollar store for tropical decorations like tiki pictures, drink umbrellas, or grass skirts.
• Get dressed in your bathing suit, cover-up, and sunglasses like you're on a real cruise.
• Play some island music.  Try Kokomo by the Beach Boys or Escape (The Pina Coloda Song) by Rupert Holmes.
• Make an Island-themed dinner- like Hawaiian chicken with pina colodas or strawberry daiquiris.
• Limbo!
• Watch Pirates of the Caribbean.
• You can even put blue food coloring and a beach ball in the bathtub.

Greece

• Toga Party anyone?
• Cook some authentic Greek food.  How about moussaka and baklava (or keep it simple with pita pizzas)
• Listen to Greek music and dance! (And if you really want to- break some old, glass dishes that you don't care about.  Opa!  tee hee.)
• Watch "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"

Jamaica

• Give your spouse a note- "Jamaican me crazy- yah mon!"  (Oooh- isn't there a Jamaican me crazy Ben & Jerry's ice cream??)
• Cook some Jamaican food- jerk chicken or boiled banana anyone?
• Turn into a Jamaican online radio station and listen to some reggae and calypso music.
• Put on an island shirt and do some island dancing!
• Play with hacki-sacks
• Watch "Cool Runnings"

Russia

• Make some Russian food.  Try Borsch or Beef Stroganoff
• Forget the vodka, take shots of rootbeer
• Play Russian roulette with a cap gun.  Or dress as mobsters.  hee hee.
• Listen to some Russian music online and try to dance the Preesyadka (the Russian knee-bending, kick dance)

• Watch the Russian Ballet or Opera on YouTube

Germany

(perfect for an October date)

• Host your own Oktoberfest for two- serve bratwurst with mustard and sauerkraut
• Instead of beer and ale, serve mugs of rootbeer or ginger ale
• For dessert, how about apple strudel?
• Better yet- host your own Choctoberfest and serve German chocolate!!
• Listen to German music on Pandora and watch a German movie.

Egypt

• Write each other notes in hieroglyphics- switch and decode
• Create an archaeological dig site for your spouse using a sandbox and have them search for buried treasure (a love note or gift)
• Play Egyptian music (and walk like an Egyptian.)  ;)

We are going to surprise your man with a gift that will turn an ordinary canned good into an extraordinary creative gift.  This DIY project is easy, quick, and romantic which will be a great "just because" or for a "cheer-up" gift! I ran across this cute surprise can idea on Come Together Kids. I thought the idea was so clever that I had to transform it into a thoughtful and romantic DIY gift for your spouse. This DIY gift is the perfect way to show your love, spark a little romance, or to cheer-up your spouse. 

DIY Gift Supplies

You will need a couple of items:

• cleaned out canned good, any size works as long as it's something your spouse loves (Eat whatever is in the can, clean, and dry the can before using.)
• can opener
• glue gun
• scissors
• printables
• pen
• packed lunch

Print these darling designs onto white card stock. Cut the SWAK, note card, and prompt note slips out. Fill out the prompt note slips, there are a few blank ones for you to write whatever you want on as well.

Place the prompt note slips inside the clean can.

The DIY Gift

Before sealing your can, you can either place the note card inside the can before sealing by folding the card and place among the note prompt slips, or another option is to leave the note card out and give it with your canned DIY gift.

Seal your can with the glue gun and glue the SWAK note on top of the can.  This will give your spouse a little hint at what's to come!

Place your surprise DIY gift in with a packed lunch you've prepared for your spouse, into a picnic basket on your next date night, or out on the counter for your spouse to open during your couples cooking night.

DATE NIGHT

Then, simply check it every day for your little "love assignment." It might be a small act of service to do for your spouse, a love note to write, or a quick activity to do together. We've even included great date night ideas for each Friday night! {Don't worry, we've only scheduled one "Out on the town" date each month, so you only have to arrange for a babysitter once a month! The rest of the dates are fun and creative at-home options.} We've done all of the work for you, now you just have to MAKE IT HAPPEN!
